In September 2014 Euosite in cooperation with FREE Nature and Staatsbosbeheer organisez a workshop on `Living with Wilderness.’ As a outcome of this workshop Eurosite now presents a document with guidelines on Communicating wilderness management techniques in Natura 2000 sites and other European natural areas. On of the keystones on this topic is to co-exists with large herbivores and carnivors.
Rewilding is a relatively new strategy that has the potential to be implemented in many nature areas across Europe. Part of this strategy is the return of lost species of large herbivores and carnivores. However, it is also one of the most challenging management strategies for protected area managers to implement. It can potentially lead to conflicts.
